Poem from 2024 by BW Derge about finding one's path only to have it blocked by obstacles caused by your own doing. Shouting "Avalanche!" Causes the Rocks to Fall...
Shouting "Avalanche!" Caused the Rocks to Fall
by B.W. Derge (2024)
For a minute there, I swear
The smudge was gone
And I could hear clearly
And see with my eyes closed
And my spirit could feel
The depth of infinite limbs-
The path before me
Was so clear and its destination
So promising-
-
But then the new shit
Came so quick
And an avalanche collapsed
Onto my beloved path
Oh no, not again,
I forgot this road
Was meant to be walked alone
And it was inviting other souls
Along down this path of now
That caused the rocks
To fall-

-
I should’ve remembered
To tread quietly
When this dirt trail
Gets rediscovered-
And not to run full speed ahead,
Clamoring for others to join…
For the queen, the princess,
The housemaster and the troll,
The evil king, the benevolent pope,
The merchants and the dragons
Hoarding all the gold…
Even the jester and the children
Laughed nervously…

No one but the spirits
Of my grandparents
And ancestors
Seemed to understand me…
-
But now that I have seen
Where the holy road led,
You best believe
I am putting my head down
And getting to work
To clear this path again
Pebble by pebble
And when this shit gets out of my way,
I will keep my discipline
And my mouth shut,
Creeping closer to that throne.
I was so silly to forget
It was meant to be found alone.
