A little bit of a strategy with this jam. BW Derge on the Drums and Nick on the Guitars in an improvised instrumental jam inspired by Hall of the Mountain King.
Hail the Mountain King? Slow Jam Session that Gets Faster
After an introduction from BW Derge and Laenif studios, we get into the jam.
Opening Dialogue:
B: “Alright, um… why don’t we kind of like start slow, then, hear me out, go… faster.”
N: “Wait a minute, hold on, a little too complicated for my liking. What’d you say?”
B: “So don’t start fast, start slow. Then by the end, let’s see how fast we can go. Test our limits. Kind of like hail the mountain king.”
N: “It’s called Hall of the Mountain King.”
B: “Well I hail the mountain king.”
N: “Okay I think we’ve got our slow start here.”
Right now…
- Starting out pretty nice and slow.
- Drumbeat comes in with a cool little groove.
- Very dark and atmospheric with a steady beat around the 4 minute mark.
- Cool move to toms before picking up the tempo around the 5 minute point.
- At 5:45, nice guitar work by Nick as beat continues to pick up…
- Little bit of rhythm magic at 6:30 – was that intentional?
- Shake off your mistakes, Ben.
- 7:15 – Gradually getting harder and faster…
- Drum solo around the 8 minute mark. Very frantic feel has developed…
- 8:40 – a bit of a breakdown, but then Nick starts some fast fingering
- Drums simmer down a bit, nice little beat.
- Approaching the climatic ending to the jam at the 10 minute point
- Chaotic ending… lands nicely.
- Cymbals and chimes for the win.
