  • "Tutti Frutti" was removed from Amazon Music... so it has been replaced with "Trabajo" by the same artist.

  • On the Road to Mexico, We Go: A Mixtape That Marked My Return to Light

In 2022, I made a playlist, the 84th in my collection, signifying a tectonic shift personally.

A sonic map out of the fog. After four years of emotional drought and existential drift (2018–2022), I found myself at a turning point. And the first sign of sunrise came not from therapy or epiphany, but from music.

I called the mix “On the Road to Mexico, We Go.” Not because I was physically heading south, but because Mexico became a metaphor. A place where warmth returned. Where color bled back into the grayscale. When "joy came a knockin.'"

    The Soundtrack of a Shift

The playlist is a genre-bending blend of artists who are perfect co-pilots for the journey:

    • Puscifer: Raw, irreverent, and spiritually confrontational. Maynard’s side project gave voice to the chaos I’d been suppressing. (Prometheus steals the fire...)
    • Pomplamoose: Playful, clever, and emotionally agile. Their arrangements reminded me that reinvention could be fun. (After Joy returns...)
    • Michael Bublé: Smooth, nostalgic, and unapologetically romantic. His presence anchored the mix with a sense of earned optimism. (Starts off the Mix.)

From Darkness to Dawn

2018 to 2022 was one of the longest dark stretches of my life.

I didn’t know it at the time, but “On the Road to Mexico, We Go” was my first act of reclamation. It was the moment I stopped waiting for the light and started chasing it. Each track was a breadcrumb. Each transition a breath. And somewhere between the synths, horns, and harmonies, I felt something shift.

Mexico as Metaphor

Mexico evokes warmth, vibrancy, and transformation. It’s a place where cultures collide, where music is woven into daily life, where the sun doesn’t apologize for shining...
