Poem by BW Derge from "Manifestations of Consciousness (Or, More Fucking Poems)" (2010)
Baltimore Night
We smoked over drinks-
I liked the seaside view-
Other people around
Waiting for the orioles game,
Made it difficult to talk.
We each silently lit another cigar,
Ordered more drinks,
Stared at some stars-
Everyone else was drunk
Because the stage was set
For Baltimore’s end-
We just watched
The Chesapeake’s sea
From off the balcony-
People started leaving,
I was drunk as fuck-
Spins turn with loose laughter
So loud so suddenly
Lost in awesome comfort-
Light one more for the night
Over one more drink, we speak.
I say, barely awake, “I’m good.”
Dad, after laughing, says,
"That's good."
