"Swallow a Soul" - Poem by BW Derge from "A Doomed, Faceless, Abstract Idea with Possible Deeper Meaning Presented Through the Medium of Poetry" - written in 2005 at St. John's at Prospect Hall in Frederick, MD - studying creative writing and the therapeutic uses of swallowing a soul
Swallow a Soul
Hungry for new creation,
A direction targeted by few-
Or else doomed to sit in seclusion
As forever the world passes by-
The mind opiates,
We fade away together-
Eat and cycle and smoke
And write and draw and die
Finally fucking die already
Go sleep with the plants-
Dissolve into bacterial criteria.
Did we become human for a reason?
Or is it the result of chemical instability?
I stopped by a creek and observed
The speeding flow of the clear current
Pushing the water through to a soul-

Is it peace the stream demands of me?
Or does it crave I go insane?
The farther out I search for love
The deeper I feel pain-
But the last thing I wish to do
Is poop on someone else’s cake
Even if I ate all mine up
And I crave yours to take-

Have your fun.
Take the fire with you-
There is peace in emptiness,
There is nothing I can do-
