Would you rather cave dive or sing in public? The Jam Notes podcast is back for season 2! With StarCraft talk! And a jam session to close things off.

Would you rather cave dive or sing in public? The Jam Notes podcast is back for season 2! With StarCraft talk! Trying something a little different this go around. Switching up the formats each episode - adding things, streamlining stuff. Jamming begins around 10 minute mark.

This episode we’re talking about our creative endeavors next to a drum kit in a shoebox. Nick’s doing solo work, original songs and covers, and playing with his band JACK FUNK! New album coming soon! Same with Ben’s book… hopefully. 2027 for sure. Tandem release party?

Cave diving, the Wild Kratts, and singing in public. Shout out to Gus and Woody at Dive Talk!

To follow up on later episode: are there caves in every single mountain? Are mountains hollow?

And then there’s a live jam… after a beer is spilt.

Jam Notes 20 Description

Season 2 opens with Ben and Nick recording from a shoebo after shrinking themselves and the drum set because Jam Notes has never been burdened by realism. The dolly is rolling, the camera is drifting, and they’re pretending to have an assistant even though it’s just two musicians surrounded by questionable decisions.

They kick things off by catching up: Ben’s long‑suffering book (coming out this year, allegedly), the paid Substack episode no one paid for, and the gravitational pull of StarCraft. Then the spotlight shifts to Nick, who’s been out in the world actually performing. He talks about solo gigs, Beatles covers, original songs, and the slow, stubborn march toward finishing the next Jack Funk album. Two tracks left.

Somewhere along the way, the conversation veers into cave diving, the kind of hobby Ben would never attempt but will happily watch other people attempt from the safety of a couch. Nick watches cave explorers. Ben watches cave divers who talk about cave explorers. It’s a whole ecosystem of people watching other people do things they would never do. The internet is a cave system of its own.

They drift into PBS Kids, goofy hats, sinkholes, whether mountains are hollow, and how many caves exist without openings. Eventually, the only logical move is to turn all of that into a jam: a musical cave dive, complete with imaginary boats, big splashes, and a slow descent into some underwater cavern in Mexico.

Season 2 starts as it should confused, amused, mildly existential, and ready to dive into the dark with a guitar and a drum kit.
